The British Fashion Council (BFC) is announcing today the release of a second series of its podcast, Fashion Forum. Launching today, the first episode features British Designer and ‘2020 Fashion Awards’ Honouree Stella McCartney OBE in conversation with Alex Fury, Fashion Features Director of AnOther magazine, and Men’s Critic of the Financial Times, discussing positive environmental change in fashion.
This special edition episode was first delivered as a student webinar as part of the BFC Colleges Council Membership programme; over 33 of the top fashion universities across the UK were invited to join the session as the audience. The episode explores Stella’s own creativity, activism and the iconic brand that has pioneered sustainability in fashion for the past 20 years. Stella shares stories from her personal experience about her upbringing and how her family encouraged her interests; her adventures as an apprentice in Paris and London; how she coped with bias and stuck to her beliefs; and the innovative tech and engineering companies she is working with in her continued efforts to challenge the status quo.
The 10-episode series will run on a bi-weekly schedule until April 2021, and is available to listen to on Acast, Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Google Podcasts. Further guests appearing on the second season of the podcast include Anya Hindmarch, Erdem Moralıoğlu, Gabriela Hearst, Nell Kalonji, Richard Malone, Rosh Mahtani, Supriya Lele, among many others.
The Fashion Forum podcast aligns with the mission of the Institute of Positive Fashion (IPF), which is to help the British fashion industry lead in the goal to be more resilient and circular through global collaboration and local action. Centred around the three Pillars of the IPF, Environment, People and Community & Craftsmanship, each episode welcomes a new host and a broad range of voices, sharing personal experiences as well as discussing the biggest issues in fashion today relating to areas such as positive change, diversity, sustainability, education, culture and technology.
For the second series of Fashion Forum, the BFC is working with Nigerian-born, London-based multidisciplinary artist, Tejumola Butler Adenuga, on ten exclusive illustrations, portraying hosts and guests.
The first series of Fashion Forum launched in June 2020. The guests and themes were wide-ranging and topical, from Campbell Addy and Priya Ahluwalia speaking about breaking boundaries and overcoming racism in the fashion industry; to Alastair McKimm discussing the evolution of fashion and street culture; and Charles Jeffrey and Matty Bovan exploring the new opportunities open to fashion students in a post-COVID world.
