Paris Haute Couture Week Calendar – Spring/Summer 2021

Haute Couture is a French exception and as the name of the Federation indicates, it is at the heart of the Fashion ecosystem. Very modern, it is a permanent bridge between a tradition of excellence in know-how and a contemporary nature of creation, today integrating manufacturing techniques at the cutting edge of innovation. The Haute Couture collections are presented twice a year in January and July.

Due to its extraordinary character, it is given a separate status. Since 2010, its official calendar has welcomed the Haute Joaillerie Houses that are members of the Federation. This approach allows a synchronicity of the presentations, but also to unfold the history of 2 sectors with exceptional know-how and in perpetual reinvention.

The origin of Haute Couture is attributed to Charles Frédéric WORTH who created in 1858 at 7 rue de la Paix in Paris the first real Couture House. Before that Rose Bertin, Marie-Antoinette’s “Minister of Fashion”, foreshadowed it and was the first to begin to free the female body while adorning her creations with embroidery, lace and rose petals. Addition.

Following a decree published on January 23, 1945, the appellation “Haute Couture” became a legally controlled appellation. Only houses and companies approved each year by a dedicated commission led by the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture, held under the aegis of the Ministry of Industry, can take advantage.

Preferred field of handwork carried out in the workshops of houses, laboratory of ideas and techniques, space where creativity can express itself freely, Haute Couture, whose international reputation has never wavered, contributes to make Paris the fashion capital of the world. Haute Couture is distinguished by the uniqueness of the models created each year, and the individualization of these models which are then made to measure for customers.

Haute Couture like contemporary Haute Joaillerie heckles and sometimes upsets academic forms to adapt to the times. They bring an undeniable sensoriality and imagination supplement in addition to remaining extremely modern, often feeding on new technologies.
